Daniel A particularly nasty 21st birthday party

"I hired a restaurant in Bristol for around 50 of my mates. Towards the end of the meal, everyone was drunk, and I stood on my chair to thank everyone for coming. For some reason I threw my hands in the air and knocked the strip of lights that ran across the ceiling on a wire, and 270v shot through my body, throwing me to the floor. You'd have thought I'd have learned my lesson and calmed down, but it wasn't to be.

Once the commotion died down, we carried on drinking and made our way to a club, and on the way my mates dared me to climb a lamp-post, and I accepted the challenge. When I reached the top though, I lost my grip and fell 25 feet, landing on my back, against the edge of the kerb.

I was immediately rushed to the Bristol Royal Infirmary, who contacted my Mum and Dad, just after midnight, and explained that I was lying in a coma and had possibly broken my back and the chances of making it through the night were slim.

My parents had to drive 150 miles from Sussex, and maintained contact with the hospital via their mobile. That's the bit I really do regret putting them through. Needless to say, I luckily survived to tell the tale, but I now go easy on the drinking, and taking dares from my mates."
